The presented article explains the importance of characterization in Urdu narrative literature. Narrative has a prestigious place in our narrative literature. These stories, which are the foundation of Urdu narrative literature, not only show the initial impressions of narrative literature but also are the best reflections of the characters of our civilization and society. Characterization is a very important and fundamental element in narrative literature that makes any story alive and believable. Characterization is the art through which the author takes his characters out of imagination and gives them the form of reality, fills them with thoughts, emotions, and actions. The storyteller reaches the movements and qualities of his character through his creative power, which are necessary to draw a complete outline of their personality, and by expressing these aspects, he makes the character he presents more alive than ordinary living people. We can examine the overall trends of the society of that time through the characters of the stories. This article, after defining and introducing characterization, examines the characters presented in our stories from a research and critical perspective.
