Christianity is one of the major world religions, and its name is derived from the Greek word Christos, a translation of the Hebrew Messiah. According to Christian belief, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Messiah, and the savior of humanity. His mission was to establish what is called the “New Covenant,” regarded as both the fulfillment and the continuation of the “Old Testament.” The essence of Jesus’ teachings emphasized the oneness of God, the brotherhood of humankind, love, forgiveness, and sacrifice. Despite the moral and spiritual depth of this message, the Jewish authorities and the Roman rulers failed to acknowledge its truth, which led to widespread resistance. In this paper, I will explore the history and evolution of Christianity through several key aspects. First, I will examine the early Church and its historical development. Beginning as a small community of believers, the Church gradually transformed into a highly organized institution that became central not only to religious life but also to the cultural and political framework of the Western world. The transition from persecution under the Roman Empire to eventual recognition under Constantine marks a critical stage in this transformation.Secondly, I will analyze the nature of Jesus’ teachings. While rooted in Jewish tradition, his emphasis on love, humility, and devotion to God introduced a new moral vision that attracted diverse audiences. These teachings laid the foundation for a distinctive religious identity that continued to inspire communities across centuries.Thirdly, I will consider the importance of early Christian symbols, particularly the cross and the fish (Ichthys). The cross, once a symbol of shame and execution, became the central sign of salvation and victory, while the fish served as a secret identifier among persecuted Christians. These symbols played a significant role in shaping the collective identity of the early Christian community. Finally, I will investigate major Christian festivals and traditions, such as Christmas and Easter, along with related symbols like the Christmas tree and Santa Claus. These practices demonstrate how Christianity integrated theological beliefs with cultural expressions, allowing the faith to adapt and resonate across different societies. Thus, this paper will not only outline the basic doctrines and practices of Christianity but also provide a comprehensive perspective on its historical and symbolic development. By examining the Church, the teachings of Jesus, early symbols, and cultural traditions, I aim to present Christianity as a dynamic and evolving religion that continues to influence billions worldwide.
