Abstract

Writing down daily experiences and observations in a copy is called a “Roznamcha” in urdu. A “Roznamcha” also contains historical entries and daily impressions are written in it. This is a type of autobiography, the only difference being the date. It is also called a biography. A diary is an excellent material for compiling an autobiography.

A diary or diary has generally been used to write down thoughts, ideas, and matters in a chronological manner. But it has also been easily adapted to other formats, especially in writing fictional or anecdotal writings. If there is no continuity in a diary, it would not be possible to blend into events like water.

The tradition of writing diaries in Urdu is one and a half centuries old. Most Urdu writers have been recording important events of their lives before their autobiographies. Later, they started giving it the form of autobiographies. In this way, they gradually laid the foundation of this diary. For example, in the present era, Syed Zamir Jafri has written regular diaries. In this article, we will review the intellectual topics of the daily diaries.
