COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PERSONAL PRONOUN INFLECTIONS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS IN ENGLISH AND ASTORI DIALECT OF SHINA LANGUAGE: A MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
The study is a morphological analysis of Shina (Astori dialect) and English so as to investigate the similarities and differences of pronoun inflections and their functions in both the languages. For the said analysis, inflections of pronouns have been taken as the central point. Morphological comparison of globally known language with such a dialect, which belongs to a language considered to be endangered, needs quite rigorous efforts, the researcher has tried to keep at it and compare pronoun inflections and their functions as per his capability. Findings of the study revealed that inflections in English do not show multiple grammatical functions, that is, a single inflection in a context shows a single grammatical function at a time, but on the other hand, a single inflection in Shina shows more than one grammatical function in a context. In possessive case, specifically, Shina pronouns are inflected to show possession, gender and number as well. There is a similarity in both the languages, that is, when pronouns are used in subjective case, they are, most of the time, not inflected in both the languages.
