Abstract

The masnavi ‘‘Ahsan-ul-Qasas’’ by Molvi Ghulam Rasool Alampuri is a remarkable example of classical punjabi literature. In this masnavi, Molvi Ghulam Rasool Alampuri narrates the story of Prophet Yusuf(A.S). Dreams play a very important role in this story. They are not merely part of the events, but also carry deep messages from Allah. The dream of young Yusuf(A.S) in which the sun, the moon and eleven stars prostrate before him, foretells future events. Throughout the masnavi, dreams serve as a bridge between the physicall and the spiritul world. Through dreams we learn about truth, self-control and how Allah plans everything with wisdom and purpose.

Scientifically dreams are associated with three levels of conciousness: sub concious and perceptual concious. These are followed by four higher states of expended awareness: Transcendental consiousness, Cosmic consiousness, God conciousness and Unity conciousness. This article is based on the dream of different characters of Masnavi Ahsan-ul-Qasas, which convey profound and deeper understanding.
