Abstract

This article explores the representation of sexuality in the short stories of Saadat Hasan Manto and examines its relationship with social reality and human psychology. The study argues that Manto did not employ sexuality merely as a means of provocation or entertainment; rather, he used it as a literary device to expose the hidden contradictions, moral hypocrisy, social injustice, and psychological complexities of society. By analyzing selected short stories, including Thanda Gosht, Khol Do, Kali Shalwar, Bu, Hatak, and Dhuan, the article demonstrates how Manto portrayed sexual behavior within broader social, cultural, and psychological contexts. The study further highlights the influence of psychological theories, particularly those associated with the unconscious and human instincts, in understanding Manto's fictional world. It concludes that Manto's treatment of sexuality reflects his commitment to realism and his desire to reveal the painful realities of human existence. His writings continue to provide valuable insights into literature, psychology, and society and remain an important source for contemporary literary criticism.
