Abstract

The rental system has been an integral part of human society since ancient times. However, in the modern era, its nature and complexities have evolved significantly. Due to global economic changes, urban population growth, and technological advancements, new challenges have emerged in property transactions and rental agreements. This research examines contemporary rental issues and discusses their Shariah rulings in the light of Islamic principles.Several new trends have emerged in the field of rental agreements, such as online rental platforms, short-term rentals, and increasing disputes over commercial and residential properties. Additionally, issues such as inflation, the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords, and breaches of rental agreements are some of the major challenges in modern rental dealings.This study explores the fundamental principles of rental transactions as outlined in Islamic teachings, including adherence to agreements, fairness in rent determination, Islamic methods of dispute resolution, and avoidance of unlawful contract conditions. The opinions of different schools of Islamic jurisprudence have also been incorporated to present a comprehensive understanding of the topic.The objective of this research is to offer solutions to contemporary rental challenges in the light of Islamic rulings so that rental transactions in Muslim societies can be regulated according to Shariah principles. The study analyzes Quranic verses, Hadiths, jurisprudential opinions, and modern legal and economic references to provide a well-rounded perspective.This research serves as a valuable resource for experts in Islamic finance and law, property owners, tenants, and policymakers. By considering the findings of this study, practical and Shariah-compliant solutions can be developed to address contemporary rental challenges, ultimately promoting justice and fairness in Muslim societies.
