THE CONCEPT OF THE UNIVERSE IN IQBAL'S POETRY
Abstract
In Allama Iqbal's Urdu poetry, the concept of the universe (تصور کائنات) holds a central and profound place. Iqbal's vision of the universe is not merely physical but is deeply intertwined with spiritual and philosophical dimensions. He perceives the cosmos as a dynamic, evolving entity where human beings are not passive observers but active participants in shaping reality. The universe, in Iqbal's view, is a manifestation of divine energy, and humanity's purpose is to harness this energy through self-realization and spiritual awakening. Through his poetry, Iqbal encourages individuals to understand the interconnectedness of all things, emphasizing the potential of the self to transcend worldly limitations and engage with the vastness of the universe. His conception of the cosmos is rooted in a blend of Eastern spirituality and Western philosophy, advocating for a harmonious synthesis of intellect and soul. Ultimately, Iqbal’s idea of the universe serves as a call for a transformative approach to life, urging mankind to recognize its cosmic role and seek a higher, more enlightened existence.
