THE DOMINANCE OF ENGLISH IN PAKISTANI EDUCATION: ANALYZING STUDENT AND TEACHER PERSPECTIVES TOWARDS LANGUAGE POLICY
Abstract
The study explores the perception of students and teachers in district Bahawalpur, Pakistan, regarding the use of English as a medium of instruction. The English language has become a cultural phenomenon, with students and teachers expressing its benefits in career opportunities and global opportunities. However, concerns have been raised about the potential compromise of cultural heritage and identity. The research used a quantitative questionnaire to survey 400 students and 30 teachers from two universities and three colleges. The findings suggest that some students perceive English as a vital tool for professional and academic growth, while others worry about cultural identity and linguistic equity. The study underscores the need for educational institutions to consider both students' and teachers' perspectives when developing language policies.Downloads
