This research article explores the thematic and technical aspects of Shamsur Rahman Faruqi’s novels, primarily focusing on Kai Chand Thay Sar-e-Asman and Qabz-e-Zaman. Faruqi, a towering figure in Urdu literature, not only revolutionized literary criticism but also redefined the Urdu novel. His fiction integrates historical consciousness, cultural memory, philosophical inquiry, and linguistic richness. Kai Chand Thay Sar-e-Asman delves into the socio-political and cultural intricacies of 18th and 19th-century Indo-Muslim elite life, portraying the decline of Mughal traditions and linguistic aesthetics. Meanwhile, Qabz-e-Zaman offers a metaphysical reflection on time and narrative consciousness. The article analyzes Faruqi’s narrative techniques, including non-linear storytelling, symbolic structures, and postmodern elements. Through these novels, Faruqi bridges classical traditions with modern narrative forms, marking a pivotal evolution in Urdu fiction.
