Feminism is a multifaceted ideology and movement that advocates for the political, social, economic, and cultural rights of women, challenging patriarchal systems that perpetuate inequality, exploitation, and gender-based violence. Emerging in various waves—each with unique focuses such as suffrage, reproductive rights, and workplace equality—feminism encompasses diverse schools of thought including liberal, socialist, Black, and psychoanalytic feminism, each addressing different dimensions of women's lived experiences. In contrast to the historical oppression of women, Islamic teachings emphasize women’s dignity, inheritance rights, and social respect. In South Asia, patriarchal norms have long confined women, yet rising awareness has spurred calls for justice and reform. Ultimately, feminism aspires to build an equitable society where women enjoy full autonomy, dignity, and recognition as complete human beings.
