Abstract

Hybridization of lexis represents a salient feature of Pakistani English, reflecting the dynamic interaction between English and indigenous languages. This study investigates the phenomenon of lexical hybridization in Pakistani English newspapers, with a particular focus on The News corpus spanning seven months (January 2017-July 2017). The primary objective is to identify and analyze hybrid lexical structures, exploring how hybridization functions as a deliberate strategy for lexical innovation within the logical linguistic context. By examining examples drawn from various sociocultural domains and analyzing their frequency of occurrence, the study highlights the systematic integration of linguistic elements into English discourse. The findings underscore the role of lexical hybridization as a defining characteristic of Pakistani English journalism and its contribution to the evolving identity of World Englishes.
