Is Islam Religion of Moderation or Radicalism
Abstract
The question of whether Islam is a religion of moderation or radicalism has been a subject of intense debate, particularly in the context of contemporary global conflicts and the rise of extremist groups. This article explores the core tenets of Islam, examining how its teachings on justice, peace, and social responsibility have been interpreted and applied across various historical and cultural contexts. By analyzing key Islamic texts, such as the Qur'an and Hadith, and comparing the actions of mainstream Muslim communities with those of radical factions, the article argues that Islam, in its essence, advocates for moderation and balance in all aspects of life. However, it also highlights how certain political, socio-economic, and historical factors have contributed to the rise of radical interpretations. The article concludes that while radicalism exists within Islam as it does in any religion, the overwhelming majority of Muslims adhere to a worldview grounded in peace, coexistence, and moderation, and that the misrepresentation of Islamic teachings by extremists distorts the true message of the faith.
