Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital era, the dissemination and promotion of Islamic teachings have undergone a profound transformation. Social media platforms and artificial intelligence-driven educational tools have emerged as powerful instruments for reaching global Muslim audiences, particularly the youth, in ways that traditional methods cannot match. This paper explores the multifaceted role of social media (such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X) and AI-powered platforms (including personalized Qur’ān and Hadith apps, virtual Islamic learning environments, chatbots for fiqh queries, and adaptive learning systems) in promoting authentic Islamic knowledge, fostering spiritual growth, and countering misinformation. The study examines both the opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies: the unprecedented accessibility and interactivity they offer, their ability to deliver tailored content in multiple languages, and their potential to revive interest in classical Islamic sciences among digitally native generations. Simultaneously, it addresses critical concerns such as the spread of unauthentic content, superficial understanding, algorithmic bias, privacy issues, and the risk of reducing sacred knowledge to mere entertainment.Through analysis of current trends, case studies of successful digital da‘wah initiatives, and scholarly perspectives, this research argues that while social media and AI-based platforms are not replacements for traditional scholarly transmission (‘ilm al-rijāl), they can serve as highly effective complementary tools when guided by qualified scholars, rooted in authentic sources, and designed with ethical and pedagogical integrity. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for scholars, developers, and institutions to harness these technologies responsibly in order to strengthen Islamic education and identity in the 21st century.
