This research article presents an introductory، yet analytical، review of selected Urdu works on Maqasid al-Shariah (the higher objectives of Islamic law). The study aims to (i) clarify the conceptual and methodological foundations of Maqasid discourse، (ii) evaluate how Urdu authors structure and justify Maqasid-based reasoning، and (iii) highlight strengths and limitations in contemporary Urdu treatments of the subject. The research is based on a descriptive-analytical method، combining textual reading، thematic mapping، and evaluative commentary. For an organized presentation، the article is divided into three chapters، each dedicated to a representative Urdu work: (a) .Maqasid-e-Shariat. by Prof Dr Muhammad Nejatullah Siddiqui، (b) Islami Shariat: Maqasid aur Masalih by Dr Yusuf Hamid al-Alim (Urdu translation)، and (c) Maqasid Shariat: Asooli Tajzia by Mufti Ubaid ur Rahman. The chapter-wise structure allows comparison across authorial purpose، conceptual clarity، engagement with classical usual al-fiqh، and application to modern issues. The article argues that Urdu scholarship has increasingly used Maqasid to bridge classical legal theory and contemporary challenges، yet the quality of Maqasid reasoning varies. Strong contributions include explaining the relationship between Maqasid and maslahah (public interest)، clarifying levels of objectives، and warning against arbitrary appeals to benefit without usual controls. However، recurring weaknesses are also identified: insufficient distinction between definitive objectives and speculative benefits، limited criteria for resolving conflicts between objectives، and occasional over-expansion of Maqasid lists without methodological discipline. The study concludes with a synthesized discussion، eight research findings، and eight recommendations for improving Urdu Maqasid writing، including tighter usual grounding، clearer evidentiary standards، and better integration of Qur’anic، Prophetic، and juristic frameworks.
