This article explores the emerging of a series of poems from the dialogues of a play. Basir Sultan Kazmi is a well-known poet and playwright. He got his long play Bisaat published in 1987. The poetic quality of Bisaat was particularly noticed by critics. Twenty-five years after the publication of the play, the author realised the presence of poems in its dialogues. According him, he was made aware of this feature by the hidden poems themselves who demanded a separate book for them. After some resistance, the author conceded and published them with the title, ‘Chunsath Khanay Chunsath Nazmein’. The main themes of these poems are similar to those of the play, e.g. values of life, friendship, love, marriage, equality; social and political phenomena like class system, wealth, power, autocratic and democratic systems; equal opportunities and self-development of individuals. This emerging of one form of literature from another seems very interesting and unique. The present study analyses these poems in some detail.
