PERSIAN GHAZAL OF SYED MUHAMAD AKRAM IKRAM: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY
Abstract
Subcontinent, like Iran, has played an important role in the development of Persian poetry from the beginning to the contemporary period. Several poets, from Masud Saad Salman to Allama Iqbal, contributed to the development of Persian poetry in their respective times. Syed Muhammad Akram Ikram is one of the famous Persian teachers of Pakistan. He spent his life teaching Persian language and literature in University of the Punjab, Lahore. He represented Pakistan internationally in Iqbal Studies and Persian language and literature. Syed Muhammad Akram is primarily recognized as an Urdu and Persian poet. Specifically, his Persian poetry is highly appreciated by Iranians. In this article, his Persian “ghazal” will be briefly analyzed in terms of language, literature, thematic and intellectual aspects.
