Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of semantic distortion that emerges when Qur’anic vocabulary and selected verses are interpreted through the presuppositions of communist ideology. It argues that ideological prior-commitments frequently operate as controlling frameworks that reassign meanings to Qur’anic terms in ways that are not warranted by classical Arabic usage, the immediate textual context (siyāq wa sibāq), or the Qur’an’s intra-textual coherence (al-Qur’ān yufassiru ba‘ḍuhu ba‘ḍan). Through a qualitative, text-analytic approach, the article identifies recurring methodological patterns such as selective translation, semantic reductionism, de-contextualization, and the projection of modern socio-economic categories onto Qur’anic moral and theological discourse. The analysis further demonstrates that such readings tend to dislocate core Qur’anic concepts from their normative semantic field, thereby altering doctrinal implications and ethical directives. By foregrounding lexicographical scrutiny, contextual analysis, and thematic cross-referencing across relevant Qur’anic passages, the study proposes a disciplined interpretive framework aimed at safeguarding semantic integrity against ideological over-determination. The findings underscore the necessity of methodological rigor and epistemic restraint in Qur’anic studies, especially where modern ideologies seek to function as interpretive master-narratives.
