Abstract

Razia Butt (1928-2012) was one of the most seminal and prominent figure in Pakistani Urdu popular fiction renowned for her captivating storytelling and insightful depiction of women’s lives. Born during a period of intricate socio-cultural upheaval Butt’s novels illuminate ‏themes of struggle, love, family, societal norms, moral challenges and expectations placed upon women in South Asian society. Examined through a feminine lens, her work highlight female subjectivity and emotional resilience. This paper explores Butt’s distinctive portrayal of marital dynamics and the friction between traditional norms and emerging modernity. By centering the women’s narratives and perspectives, she bridges the gap between literary aesthetics with social consciousness. In Urdu literature her work offers a literary space where female voices and identities are acknowledged and recognized.
