Abstract

Extensive research has been conducted on the works of Mir Anees in Urdu literature. However, the work conducted by Zamir Akhtar Naqvi on Mir Anees is distinctive in nature. Although little research is available on the poets of Mir Anees’ family, Zamir Akhtar Naqvi has identified twenty two poets from his lineage and has also presented samples of their poetic works. In addition Zamir Akhtar Naqvi has carried out a remarkable study on the use of colours in Mir Anees’ poetry. This was previously an unexplored aspect of Mir Anees’ work Through this work, Allama Zamir has interpreted the importance of colours used in the poetry of Mir Anees. Indeed, Mir Anees is one of the greatest poets of Urdu-Literature. However, such a scholarly analysis of the use of colours in his poetry has introduced a new dimension to the study of his work. Mir Anees is a multidimesional personality and to prove this, Allama Zamir has left no stone unturned. He has also presented Mir Anees as a zoologist by providing examples from his poetry. Allama Zamir was himself an expert in Animal behaviour and their characteristics. This is the reason Allama has explained animal behaviour in Mir Anees poetry. According to Allama, if we carefully observe Mir Anees work we come to know that the lion and the horse, due to their specific characteristics are Anees favourite animals. Whereas, the elephant and the Leopard (Cheetah) are disliked due to their association with the soldiers of Yazid’s army. In Addition, Allama Zamir has also discussed Mir Anees’s personal life and the various dimensions of his poetry. He also emphasize that if the works of Mir Anees are removed from Urdu Literature, then in terms of epic poetry it would not be possible to complete with Western literature.
