THE USE OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT IN MODERN ANIMAL SLAUGHTERING METHODS AND ITS IMPACT ON IJTIHAD
Abstract
The present era is one of scientific and industrial development, where humans have increased the use of modern technology and machines in every field. With the help of these machines, humans have made various aspects of life easier and faster. While this progress has revolutionized many sectors, its impact is also clearly visible in the methods of animal slaughter. In earlier times, the act of slaughtering animals was performed solely by human hands, but now, with the help of machines, this process is being carried out more quickly, efficiently, and often on a larger industrial scale. The use of modern machines for animal slaughtering is particularly growing in the United States and Europe. These machines are used to slaughter both small animals, such as chickens, and large animals like goats, cattle, and camels. These machines follow specific procedures for slaughtering animals, and with the help of electrical devices, thousands of chickens can be slaughtered in a single day. Afterward, the meat of these chickens is processed, packaged, and sent for sale in global markets. As a result, chicken meat is rapidly selling worldwide, and its demand is increasing.Similarly, modern machines and tools are being used for slaughtering larger animals as well. These machines not only speed up the process of slaughter but also improve its accuracy and cleanliness. Additionally, the use of machines in slaughtering makes the process safer because it reduces human intervention and enhances cleanliness standards.Although the use of machines in animal slaughter provides several benefits, it also raises some ethical and religious questions. For Muslims, the slaughtering process must be carried out according to Islamic law, which involves following specific principles, such as facing the Qibla and ensuring the slaughterer is Muslim. How these principles can be followed with the use of machines is a significant issue on which different scholars have presented their ijtihadi opinions. Thus, the use of machines requires that, despite modern scientific progress, we still consider religious principles and ethical values. There is a need for discussion and research on how these principles can be followed in the machine-assisted slaughter process, so that a balanced approach can be developed that aligns with both modern demands and religious teachings.
