Abstract

 Rewriting has a very significant role in the process of translation of historical and political document. The purpose of this study is to find out the role of rewriting in the translation of historical and political document translated by two translators sharing the same background. For this, a historical and political document “The future of Pakistan’’ by Stephen Cohen and its two Urdu translations have been selected. This study examines the methods and strategies used for the translation of historical document and also the role of perspectival position of the translator which effects the process of translation of historical document. Researcher investigated these factors through critical discourse analysis. Andre Lefevere’s theory of rewriting (1992) is set as a frame work for this study. In this theory he described that how translation gives way to rewriting and the factors involved during the whole process which cause manipulation in the translated text.   The study concludes that in which manner rewriting in translation causes manipulation in the originality of the historic document.
