EDUCATIONAL GRAMMAR IN THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT
Abstract
Educational Grammar is a method of simplifying the presentation of grammatical rules to learners while taking into account the principles of curriculum science and teaching methodologies, in accordance with modern educational standards. The study of grammar in the schools of the Indian subcontinent is divided into two categories: government schools and private religious schools. Government universities focus on specific topics presented with clarity and precision, but they do not provide a comprehensive study of all aspects of grammar. On the other hand, private religious schools emphasize classical grammar books, making their teaching style a mix of ambiguity and clarity. In contrast, grammar instruction in government universities is characterized by clarity and simplicity, with limited depth. The traditional method remains the predominant approach for expressing grammatical rules in universities and schools across the Indian subcontinent. Unfortunately, most teachers in private schools lack exposure to the latest books and research in grammar, except for a few, which prevents them from expanding their knowledge in this field. Conversely, most teachers in government universities have extensive knowledge of the latest books and research, yet they do not engage much with classical grammar texts. The common curriculum for teaching Arabic grammar in schools across the Indian subcontinent spans four years, during which various grammar books are taught. However, some books need to be replaced with modern ones in the curriculum to ensure maximum benefit for learners.
